Doc spocks question about the 60's seemed to raise alot of memories about music of the 60's and 70's. I know that for me it would be Dione and The Belmonts. Crosby,Stills,Nash and Young, James Taylor and Creedence Clearwater Revival. How many of you are able to go back to the music of your youth and listen to it with fresh ears...or does it all just sound a bit cheesy now?

Most of it is now being recorded by current groups. Not a patch on the originals though.
I have been putting some stuff on my mp3 player this week again and found some excellent quality stuff, I especially wanted some motown and found Third Finger left hand and Jimmy mack, I wanted to find some early Paul Simon too but still looking. I did like CSN&Y but preferred The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band and The Doobie Bros.
I can listen to anything from the sixties and seventies on my headphones and it sounds brilliant!
My favourite groups were,

The yardbirds, The who, small faces, geno washington and the ram jam band, the action, graham bond, the temptations, spencer davis, pink floyd, the animals, kinks, the byrds, otis redding, free, the herd, family, stones, god I could go on for ages, and yes I still love that music

Of course music is also about time and place- what was happening in your life and in the world at the time. And new covers don't have the same emotional connections either.
Oooo Dot! I bet you sound brilliant. Dot, dot, dot.

A SIMPLE DESULTORY PHILIPPIC
Paul Simon

I been Norman Mailered, Maxwell Taylored.
I been John O'Hara'd, McNamara'd.
I been Rolling Stoned and Beatled till I'm blind.
I been Ayn Randed, nearly branded
Communist, 'cause I'm left-handed.
That's the hand I use, well, never mind!

I been Phil Spectored, resurrected.
I been Lou Adlered, Barry Sadlered.
Well, I paid all the dues I want to pay.
And I learned the truth from Lenny Bruce,
And all my wealth won't buy me health,
So I smoke a pint of tea a day.

I knew a man, his brain so small,
He couldn't think of nothin' at all.
He's not the same as you and me.
He doesn't dig poetry. He's so unhip that
When you say Dylan, he thinks you're talkin' about Dylan Thomas,
Whoever he was.
The man ain't got no culture,
But its alright, ma,
Everybody must get stoned.

I been Mick Jaggered, been silver daggered.
Andy Warhol, won't you please come home?
I been mothered, fathered, aunt and uncled,
Been Roy Halee'd and Art Garfunkel'd.
I just discovered somebody's tapped my phone.

Folk Rock
I just lost my harmonica Albert

I knew a man his brain so small,
He couldn't think of nothin' at all.
He's not the same as you and me.
He doesn't dig poetry. He's so unhip that
When you say Dylan, he thinks you're talkin' about Dylan
Thomas,
Whoever he is.

So much to listen to and not enough time! lol! ...And dot-I can remember getting a HUGE portable record player for my18th and the first thing on was Bridge Over Troubled Water..
