In all honesty though, I'm not overly excited about it. It's getting worse and worse every year, not like it used to be. The last half decent one was 2000 and if I hear anyone else say I cant remember whether it was good I was too off my face one more time, im gonna scream. Why bother going? Drives me nuts.

Anyways, anyone else going? and have you been going for years too and do you think its getting worse?

To be honest with you I don't to festivals because I think now that with Glastonbury, Reading, Leeds, V, IOW there are too many bands on who aint good enough. My mate has just come back from the IOW and said that there was probably enough decent bands for 1 day and not 2 1/2.

I just think that a lot of bands just haven't got the material to "pull off a big festival". No disrespect to them bcos I do quite like them but Snow Patrol as a headline act?? As a casual fan I know about three songs. Could they pull off a storming set of 2 hours??? In my opinion no.

Whereas the Stones, Who, U2, Aerosmith, Bowie could.

Snow Patrol put on an excellent festival show, in fact of 15 years of festival attendance, they have been a highlight. Im a bit urgh over the obligatory vintage act. I think festivals are trying to please too many people, glastonbury and the like should steer away from pop, giving a slot to Amy Winehouse is utter pants.

My mate said that she was appalling lol, he likes the Frattellis and said they disappointed a bit. Personally it's all down to taste, when I go to a festival I want the headliners to be a stadium band and I'm going to know virtually every song but unfortunately there aint many of them lol. I just think a lot of bands have released one or two albums and then wind up headlining or supporting on a major festival bill.

I think I must be showing my age I'll stick to Northern Soul lol.

Glasto 92 and 93 I went to. 92 was my fave. Primal Scream, Lush, Blur, Blue Aeroplanes (17 guitars! yay!), The Levellers, The Shamen and one of my favourite live bands Spiritualized. Only being 16 we didn't drink or do the drug thing so we binged on music. Fantastic weekend.

1995 was Monsters of Rock, and '96 was MoR again, Knebworth and Reading Festival. All in 3 weeks of each other.

Nowadays I just watch from the comfort of my living room wishing I was there. Maybe when the kids are a bit older.

Yikes Bonio, being 16 you didnt do the drink or drugs thing. I dont think I did at 92 but by 93 I certainly did. Festivals are the one time of the year my dad actually offers to look after the kids.

I was going to say that I didn't mention much about Glasto 93 because of the beer and wotnot. But I just think I didn't enjoy it that much. Rolf Harris sticks in my head for some reason. Other than that, who headlined?

No, I'm not going, but I wish I was. No, but I've always rated Glastonbury as a much better festival spirit than Reading and the like. I'm not sure if it's getting worse. It was packed back in '93, so I dread to think what tent city is like now.

well 2000 because of all the fence pulling they think was enormous with around 250,000 people there by sunday night. Thatsb why they had to shape up on security, dagnammit.

93 I remember really well because I saw Lenny Kravitz in Taunton on the monday morning. So he played, the Black Crowes, Lemonheads, Suede, Jamiroquai, I think possibly the spin doctors and pearl jam but those years are confusing. Was Velvet Underground 93 or 92?

Ah yes, the underwhelming performance of the Velvet Underground. Definitely '93. The chap I went with was a big Nico fan, but I watched them with a fair amount of indifference. It was surprising how many of the songs I knew really, but I didn't think they pulled it off too well.

I don't remember Suede at all, but I must have watched them... was that pre or post Butler?
