Bret Easton Ellis - The Rules of Attraction
4 Answers
I just read it and loved it, I'm half way through reading another of his books 'Glamorama'...however, I want to change the author for the next book I read but want a book similar to these, especially The Rules of Attraction, which is about crazy teens in the 70's I'm sure, really good read.
I have also read most Chuck Palahniuk novels so they're a no go.
Any ideas?

The Catcher In The Rye by J D Salinger is great book about disaffected youth.
Generation X by Douglas Coupland depicts young people in 90's in a similar way to Rules of Attraction
Trainspotting is a good read too if you can make sense of the idiomatic Scottish prose.

Seconding the rec for 'Generation X'...great book, also 'MicroSerfs' (also by Coupland) and 'Shampoo Planet', all about the same age group, all going nowhere, but a lot less harsh than Ellis.
You might also like Paul Auster's 'The Music of Chance' or 'Moon Palace' and his edited collection 'True Tales of American Life' is AMAZING.

Have a look at this website - you put in the name of an author you like & they come up with the names of others you would enjoy. The closer the name is to your chosen author, the more likely you are to enjoy the other authors.
