I have seen an advert for the new TEAC Vinyl CopyStation reference GF650 Turntable/CD/Radio/Vinyl Copystation priced at 299. Amongst its many features you can record from vinyl LPs (yes, some of us still have them!) directly onto CD. Has anyone come across this before and is it any good?
Thanks.

Talking to some customers at the shop I occasionally work in, who have bought the low price version of these devices, they all advise steer well clear, the sound quality is awful. I would suggest going to the shop and getting a demo before parting with your hard earned cash

Thanks Mortartube, I suspected as such. I'll certainly have demos before I part with cash.
I have a Sony RCD-W100 which can record not just vinyl, but any external analogue signal such as cassettes, VHS, mic etc, directly onto CD. It also copies other CDs quickly. Cost me 200 brand new a few months ago, and the recordings are superb.
you'd probably be better off with a decent used turntable and a hi fi amp, connect the amp's tape out to your pc sound card and record using nero wave editor. this is simple and gives you flexibility to edit the tracks, boost the sound, cut out blank spaces etc etc. and of course make mp3s . I have been using such a setup for about 8 years now.

you can get the stuf off your local freecycle group and ebay or smallads in local press, cash converter shops etc.
