Is British music in a purple patch?
British music is riding high in the European charts at the moment. Artists like Katie Mehlua, James Morrison and Corinne Bailey-Rae have cracked the German and French markets, which are the fourth and fifth largest in the world. Does this success mean that British music is particularly good at the moment? Do you think that this country is producing quality acts?

For more on marking an answer as the "Best Answer", please visit our FAQ.Acts such as the ones mentioned are undoubtedly doing good things for British music abroad, but unfortunately are all safe, cosy, middle of the road dinner party acts for people who buy their CDs at supermarkets. They're not really indicative of the wealth and variety of British music as a whole, and certainly not what you'd call 'cutting edge'.
