"One of Us" by Abba is a fantastic song, heartfelt lyrics about someone deciding to strike out on their own and later realising what a big mistake they've made. You can almost hear the pain in her voice and even the music is melancholy right from the opening bars to the end.

I also like "Say hello, wave goodbye" by Soft Cell, bittersweet lyrics by someone telling someone else that their romance has been a farce and how he needs to wipe her from his memory.
