This is my all time favourite record. The original (and best)version was by Lorraine Ellison from 1966.

Yep ! Lorraine Ellison recorded the original. I dont know much about her except that she came from Philadelphia and born in 1943. Her version can be found on various soul collections and IS the best version. David Essex also had a small hit with the song.
