New Music
I'm looking for some new music to listen to. I'm into pretty much anything. Would appreciate a few pointers. What's the best new song you've heard in the last few months? All help appreciated. Cheers.

I'd recommend
http://www.pandora.com/
You put in a track or band you like, and it comes up with a playlist. You'll soon hear lots of great bands you were unaware of.

Listen to M Ward, he is brilliant. The album Transistor Radio has some ace songs on it.

One of his best is Four Hours In Washington which is amazing, but unfortuneatley not on his myspace.

Like Spiderpig, I suggest Pandora, an online radio station that tries to play music YOU like.
A group of people have put together a database of thousands of artists and their musical styles. It has then put links in the database to say if you like artist X you may also like artist Y.
You go into Pandora and put the name of an artist, it plays a track by them, then plays a track by somebody LIKE them, then another track by somebody like THEM and so on.
If you dont like a track you can click on a button to say so, and it wont play the track again, that way it learns from your likes and dislikes.
It keeps playing forever until you close the web site.
It is a great way to learn about new bands or artists.
btw It says it is only for people in the US, but when you register just "make up" a zip code like 12345 and it will let you register.

i know mate.
The differences are in the bpm and the production styles, listen to the kind of trance that Paul Van Dyke or tiesto plays and compare it to psy trance. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EwNGlD7sOFw) as an example.
Breakbeat is a different style all together, slower, more bassline, grittier if you like.
check Soul of man on www.juno.co.uk.

I aint thick I mean I DJ every week lol and do play a fair bit of chart and dancey stuff but I find all of these different types of what I basically think of a dance bewildering lol.
I mean you can easily differentiate rock/ska/motown/glam/reggae etc but "dance" just seems mad.
I hear someone the other day doing on about tight beats lol as opposed to what? loose beats? How can a beat be tight? lol

i love the debate! I actually saw soul of man a few weeks back. fantastic! you've got to love the breaks.
i think of myself as pretty up to date with most "dance" music but the number of sub genres popping up these days is unreal! you can pretty much put any word in front of "house" and get away with it...
funky house
deep house
tech house
jacking house
vocal house
acid house
x ray house
three bedroom house
plague house
blue house
fiona house
(i may have made a few of those up...)
