On-line purchase of uk rail tickets through "retailer"
Apart from receiving one's tickets by post for an additional charge, is there an alternative when no fast-ticket station is shown as your start point. Presumably you must have a ticket when you set out.
My plan is to travel from Guildford to Bath via Reading; there is no machine at Guildford nor anywhere else nearby, but there are facilties at Reading and Bath. So what options are there please?

There is actually no extra charge for delivery to you by normal post - the extra charge is if you need them in a hurry and need them by express delivery. And if you are that late in buying you are probably paying the walk-on fare anyway - you might as well buy at the station on the day if that is the case.

All staffed UK railway stations (which certainly includes Guildford) accept both cash and card payments at the ticket desk. Tickets for immediate travel and advance purchase tickets (which often offer substantial discounts) are both available over the counter.
Additionally, Guildford does have ticket machines, although it's likely that these will only sell tickets for immediate travel:

(PS: Any staffed National Rail station can sell tickets, including advanced purchase tickets, for rail travel throughout the UK. e.g. if you happen to be passing the railway station in Edinburgh, Scunthorpe, Taunton, or wherever, you can call in and buy your ticket for travel from Guildford)
