40s, 50s and 60s music.

Would anyone like to see a BBC station specially dedicated to 40s, 50s and 60s music?

The older listener is not very well catered for by the BBC, yet it is this age group who listens mostly tto the Radio .

The BBC do offer you the chance to listen to all sorts of shows again on your computer.

Go to this web site

On the right it says "Listen by Genre".

Select "Music" and there are all sorts of sections.

For example one of them is "Easy and Soundtracks"

If you select this you get about 50 different shows of easy listening music covering the 20's, 30's, 40's, 50s and 60s, musicals, films, and so on.

As an example one of them is called "Vintage Vinyl" which says "All the best songs from the 1940s through to the 1970s"

There are a limited number of stations the BBC can have, but I do think they provide excellent coverage on the interent.

I think the appeal of Radio 2 is growing a lot of thirtysomethings now tune in as most of it is radio 1 from 15 years ago lol

Thanks for your answers, link is very useful vehelpfulguy, but listening on one's computer isn't quite the same as the radio (wireless). But scanning through the number of BBC stations I feel sure that the more mature listener isn't catered for as much as other minorities (if we are indeed in the minority).

Yes Reverandfunk I do believe Radio 2 is quite popular amongst the 30 somethings, and Radio 1 amongst the younger ones, alyjough i don't think they really listen to the radio more for their CDs and MP3 players me thinks.

So let the pipe and sllpper brigade have radio whatever the number, for those that appreciate good music, via the radio.

Radio 2 does have sounds of the Sixties on a saturday morning.

I think Mark Lamarr still does a 50's show too.

Know what you mean though oldgit, It seems a little out of place when Wogan plays R&B.
Still prefer it to Radio1 any day though.

Gosh, Yes! My mother and aunt are always complaining they cant find enough of that kinsd of music. I love it too. What would we do without Desmond Carrington?
I see how old this question is but if anyone knows if anything came of it or can ressucitate the idea if not then PLEASE do let me know.
