on 23rd sept Aled Jones played a song called 'my father's song' or something like that about a son leaving home, does anyone know who its sung by???

Might it have been My Father's Son by Conner Reeves, a No.12 hit in 1997.

I think that the song you are looking for is called "A fathers song" by Charlie Landsborough . It is on his new album "The Story Teller". I hope that this helps you.:-D
