Gas and electric bill from British Gas

Hey basically, a lot of you may have heard about me and my bad living circumstances living with a house mate who is a complete horrible moron. Anyways, finally moving out next thursday (3 of us live there, me, mybest mate and him) me and my best mate told him were moving (some of the things he has done are just unforgivable. Anyways hes holding a grudge now because were leaving which hes been treating us like complete sh1t and now is angry at us for putting out foot down, and because he is so tight he never provided anything when we moved into this place, so hes annoyed that when we leave he wont have ANYTHING. The final gas and electric bill has came in and hes being a total pig and saying he hasnt got the money because hes had to put down a new deposit and rent...bearing in mind the fact hes still been going out drinking. The total for the gas and electric together divided by the 3 of us is �61. He wont pay this, and if we move out he will avoid us like the plague so we wont get it back, and these bills are in my name! any ideas what i can do? Could we be billed seperately from british gas or anything? thanks in advance hope someone can help

As it is in your name it will be your responsibility. There is not a lot you can do about it really. Good job that this situation is not lasting much longer.

Yes, I think as the bill's in your name, you remain responsible for paying it - but it's such a small one, I don't think it's worth going on and on about it to the so-called "friend".

Heya thanks for all your answers. I thought as much about BG giving a sh1t! Anyways it seems sorted now, the bill is �183.00 in total, the only reason i am so bothered is because he has sponged so much out of me and my other mate i live with, i mean this guy is that tight that instead of buying a tinopener as ive packed everything up ready to leave...he would rather saw the tins in half with a knife seriously thats what hes been doing . Weve kinda sorted it out now, me and my other mate who are leaving here together are going to pay that bill as i want it cleared as it is in my name, and he is going to clear the council tax bill. Hopefully itll work out. Thanks again guys :)

Make sure British gas know you have moved out , tell them you are no longer responsible , B gas are rite sods to get rid of,

your better off making sure your all clear with BG, even if it means coughing up money that you shouldnt have to, he will no doubt get himself into debt again so think yourselves lucky that your getting shot of this type of leech.

make sure everything in your name gets change so he wont run up any debt (also any cards ,catalogues ect) the house I have moved ito are still trying to get credit using this address, make sure you cover yourself!
