All the questions here seem to be about ads - can we only take music which comes in 30-second samples and with nice pictures attached? What happened to listening to music just for the sake of it?

It's an interesting point Pathfinder, and it does underline the success, and therefore increase, in ads using popular music. The reason why questions crop up here is because it's possible to hear the same memorable snatch of music several times, but have no way of knowing what it's called. And that is exactly the purpose of The Answerbank, because someone somewhere will know, and will tell you - it's a brilliant and highly successful concept. As far as listening to music 'for the sake of it', we must accept that we live in a far more visual age - and a lot of people enjoy pre-set images to accompany their music. Some don't, and for them, making their own images enhances their enjoyment, but there is plenty of room for both.
Agree totally. Have a look at www.tvadmusic.co.uk.
Funny, isn't it, how there's be a sudden rash of ad music questions since this question was posted?!
A very good point. Some artists can only make it into the charts here if they sell their souls to the advertising industry. Take Lenny Kravitz for example. He didn't make it big in Britain until he let whoever it was use fly away on a car ad. In answer to your question it isn't that that is the only form we can take it in but the only form where we can't choose not to hear it and where we can't either choose to hear it all (unless of course we turn off the telly but theat really is too ludicrous a thought to even entertain). I don't think ads sell as many consumer products as they do singles.
