From The Guardian 4 August 2004
"Jude Law has been tipped to play Ian Curtis in a biopic of the late Joy Division frontman. The independent American production will be based on Touching From a Distance, the 1995 memoir by Deborah Curtis, the singer's widow.
Plagued by epilepsy and bouts of depression, Manchester-born Curtis committed suicide in 1980 on the eve of a US tour. Yesterday bassist Peter Hook said that Law was "not a bad choice", but added that he would have preferred to see Sean Harris reprise the role. Despite lacking Law's star wattage, Harris was commended for his edgy, combative performance as Curtis in Michael Winterbottom's 2002 picture 24-Hour Party People.
Commenting on the reports, however, the film's producer Todd Eckert told the Guardian: "Jude is an exceptionally gifted actor, but I'm afraid the role of Ian has not yet been determined."
I would have thought Law was a bit long in the tooth.
