What will happen to someone with a criminal record like his? Will he go to prison?

I was assaulted by a now ex boyfriend a week ago.
We weren't together long, and after it all happened, I found out he had a quite extensive criminal record. Most recently and the biggest thing on his record is assault on 2 people - just some random person, and a police officer.

The police are taking what happened to me very seriously, classing it as domestic violence. They will most likely be going ahead with charges even if I didn't want to press charges (I do), but no one has really explained what can happen to him.

A mutual friend said they think he will go to prison, with the ABH and criminal damage (to my car) case that happened with me.

Is this true? And what would the likely sentance length be?

I had a quite similar experience towards the end of last year, he got 7 weeks imprisonment and an addition 4 weeks for his previous (which they can take into account now) that was for a charge of common assault.

I forgot to mention he was doing 200 hours community service for the cases of assault, they all happened in one night.

Can you tell me what the person you knew had done in the past? Did he have a criminal record?
