We were researching into what he did how do you know of him it maybe of interest to us. my e-mail address is [email protected]

Thanx hope 2 hear from you
Hi there - Jeff Rowena was my half uncle.
My father was the bassist with The Jeff Rowena Group for many years, Jeff was a lovely man and a dear friend to my dad, and we remain close friends with the Rowena's, who are very dear to us and like family. We used to go to see our fathers play at the many venues they played at during the 60's and 70's - Great memories!
I used to see him at the Streatham Locarno. In those days he had a quartet. He played music for dancing, but he always had a few numbers where he messed about. I remember the number, "That's my desire." He used to stop in the middle of it, grab the mike on it's stand and say, "she's a bit thin but she's all mine." It always got a laugh.
Hi "wisewitch" & "rosie"
I remember Jeff and Jimmy (I think they were a quartet at the time) in the early 1960's at The Empire Leicester Square. I used to work in the West End at the time and myself and a friend used to go in the afternoons when they used to have what I think would have been called "Tea Dancing". Jeff shared the revolving stage with Ken Macintosh and his band.
I met Jeff quite a few times and Jimmy, both lovely guys. Jeff and I used to talk guitars as I played and still do. If his guitar is still in the loft at his home be aware that if it is the Fender Stratocaster he used to play when I knew him, it is worh alot of money and, the loft is probably not a good place for it.
Have created a Facebook page for Jeff for fans, friends and family to add their recollections and photos of Jeff and the band.

It would be good to get Jimmy's surname and a name for your Dad so that I can add these to the Facebook page.

There's a picture of Jeff Rowena Quartet on his FB page so names for his fellow band members would be great if anyone knows them?
Hi Yes Jeff went back to Ilford, then the empira london then swansey where I left the band.Jimmy Cassady died last year. allen taylor lead guitar in the jeff rewoena band fo 7 years now working on the south coast
Hi I was lead guitar for Jeff for 7 years, till he went to Swansea then I had my own band at hammersmith pally opp Ken Macintosh band before working abroad. Jimmy Casseddy died last year about august time. .he was the lead singer with Vanity fair.
Allen Taylor still rockin' lead guitar.
Hi ' allensmusic '

Many thanks for Jimmy's surname and that he sang with Vanity Fair. I have uploaded a couple of photos of the Jeff Rowena Quartet to the Facebook page so maybe if you have time to take a look you could tell me which is Jimmy?

I'm sorry to hear Jimmy's passed away.

I am in contact with Allen Taylor and he's been able to send me a later band photo and a number of names for later members of the band. So I have more research leads to follow up on now.

A couple of questiuons:
1) Did Allen take over from you when you left? Or someone else?
2) Was the move to Swansea for a residency there or a one off gig or some other reason?

All the best !
Hi ' allensmusic ' it just dawned on me that are Allen Taylor signing off on your entries.

A quick question:

How did the gigs work in those days? Were they a residency contract for a year or something? Rather than being tours? So was Jeff's move to Swansea for a residency there or for some other reason?

All the best !
Hi I took over from Mick in 68 at Ilford.

I just found out that Jeff died in 1992 his wife has died now
I used to live next door to Jeff in Valley Road, Streatham; he was a lovely guy. I was a keen photographer and took some portraits of him which I still have - around 1953 I think - he was only the Jeff Rowena Five then, and I even made a reel-to-reel recordings of him on my Grundig, sadly lost years ago. My all-time favourite track was "you've got what it takes". I'm amazed to hear that anyone still remembers him, and so sorry to hear that he's passed away. I hope Rosita reads this, I once lost my temper when she threw sand on a motorbike I had freshly painted, so if she sees this - sorry, Rosita.
