Thoughts on wedding rings?
40 Answers
Should women (or people in general, for that matter) wear a wedding ring at all times if they are married?
Let me explain why the question:
I have a few friends around for a few days as my best friend is getting married next weekend (and this is a pre stag party, week with boys and girls).
Anyway, whilst watching TV over the past few days, we have suddenly noticed (due to the subject of why were all together) that more and more married celebrity (all be it, some of them are B, C & Z list celebs.) women don't wear wedding rings (on tele or whilst in public).
For instance we first noticed it with Claudia Winkleman on Strictly Come Dancing's It Takes Two, then Jordan on a chat show the other night and now we've just noticed Sarah Palin.... who is trying to become the most powerful woman in the world!!!
Maybe it's just us, be we feel that wearing a wedding ring is the most sacred (tangible) thing between you and another.
It's understandable when doing things like swimming, or something where it might catch on something or even, I guess, if an actress is playing the part of someone single (although there is an argument there too, I guess don't play the part?!) .....come on, even Angelina Jolie who's married to a guy most commonly called "the sexiest man alive" hardly wears ever wears one in public??!!
(I have to say really not a fan, but hats of to Victoria Beckham on this subject married to one of the most famous men on earth, and always proud to show it)
We totally understand the argument of "I don't need to wear a piece of jewellery, to know that I'm married and how my heart feels", but on the other hand I know so many people (men and women) who say that "they feel naked without it". At the end of the day I think if you love someone enough to marry them in the first place why not want to wear a ring?!
Or is it the latest fad not to wear one?!
Anyway,

my personal opinion is that it's up to each individual. Often men don't wear wedding rings, but you wouldn't accuse them of not respectng "the most sacred thing betweeen two people" (which to me is complete hyperbole and a crock anyway!)
Personally speaking my engagement ring has much more meaning than my wedding ring, probably because we were very poor at the time and he had to pay for it over quite a long time and i used to go and "visit" it in the shop before he made the last payment !!
i do wear both rings but dont suddenly love my husband less when i do the washing up and take them off and certainly didnt feel naked when they both went away for cleaning for 3 weeks.
Each person will have their own thoughts about their wedding ring, and shouldn't be berated for either wearing it or not wearing it!

I (and all here) totally agree with Jenna1978's feeling on the subject ... but if your married, your married through good and bad (and is taking off your ring, really going to change the argument?!....esp. if your famous)
But if your single, and looking for a professional half Italian/half Irish guy with strong beleifs.......... ;-)
As for Leggymessiah, yea, did know that (it the same for ewish and Polish)...but the people we put as examples don't come from any of those countries or have their religions ... surely it should be about who you are as a person - and not which country your married in?!

I've been married nearly 25 years and have never been without my wedding ring ( except when fingers were too fat and swollen to wear it),, but my husband has never owned one. The nature of his work wouldn't let him wear it anyway, but we don't feel any less married for it, and frankly I don't even notice he doesn't wear a ring
There could be other reasons, I have arthritis very bad in my finger joints so I had to have my rings taken off[which now my daughter has] thanks to my husband I have two lovely diamond rings which go over the joints.I just could not go with the idea of having another wedding ring and engagement ring it just did not feel the same.So thats another side as to why some people do not wear them.g.

Wow, didn't realise this would cause such a reaction (esp. on a sunday afternoon - when the weather is so good!!)
Even though there are many different ideas on it here, were thinking that the majority agree with us?!
Thanks for all your inputs .... anything we can do to answer your stuff in return?!

I've always worn my wedding ring - well, the only time I couldn't wear it, was when it nearly slipped off my finger & had to have it made smaller.
However, when I was 'guinea pig' sitting for my neighbour, I noticed her wedding ring on the kitchen window sill. When they returned from holiday two weeks later, I mentioned this & she said "Oh, I only had a ring to exchange vows with, but hardly bother wearing it". They only got married two years ago & have two young boys.
I think it's up to the individual whether or not they wear a wedding ring, but it's something I'm used to now! My husband has always worn his too, although we bought it shortly after we got married! ;o}
