Why the Jefferson Airplane choose that name? Who is Jefferson? The President?

Dont know, but apparently they went on to become Jefferson Starship and then just Starship

The perceived wisdom is that the 'Jefferson' half of tje name came from blues legend Blind Lemon Jefferson, and they probably liked the idea of juxtaposing the two words. the band were highly inventive in naming their albums - "After Bathing At Baxters" "Suurealistic Pillow", and "Bless Its Little Pointed Head" come to mind, and who could forget one of Paul Kantner's solo projects - "Baron Von Tollbooth And The Chrome Nun.? Y'see, you just don't get titles like that any more, I mean, kids today .....(continued on page 94).
