Just a coincidence IMHO.
Why has it taken a 'has-been' with a flagging career nearly 6 months to decide one chord of a worldwide hit is similar to an unkown (except to hardened fans) track of his?

Personally I think Coldplay should employ JS as their new lead guitarist, that mix of the two tracks sounded pretty good to me.
Yes, I suppose he (Joe Satriani) does have a point, they are VERY similar.
