I'm a bog standard guitarist with a bog standard guitar, but I'd like a good capo (but not too expensive). I've got one of these "universal" nut and slot capos but it doesn't allow the strings to 'ring' and there are so many capos about and they're usually in plastic sealed boxes or similar that shop assistants get a bit iffy if you ask to see the capo out of its covering - oh yeah, I've got a flat fretboard. Have a steel one but am a standard strummer. It should be clipped as close as possible behind the fret line.

Hi Tamborine, me too a strummer and fingerpicker and the capo I have is a metal one and I do put it right behind the fret...but it still doesn't sound right - perhaps I need another guitar...yeah, right. Ta Muchly for your answer
I use one like this:

and it works perfectly for me. If you are getting fret buzz, just make sure the capo is squeezing on to all the strings just behind the fret.

Thanks Octavius, I'll check it out...hope it works for flat fretboards? Ta Muchly.
i have a Shubb capo and it's brilliant. They are highly regarded by all of my guitaring friends.

I use an acoustic guitar but not keen on capos....however this may help:

tip: never practice alone, play in public baseball cap at foot you'll be surprised at how much more you pick up ;o)
Question Author
Hi Tamborine, if you're not keen on capos then what kind of stuff do you play?...in standard tuning or do you use alternate tunings too?
I also use the Shubb..

..and would highly recommend it. You can finely adjust the tension with which the neck is clamped. You don't have to position it just behind the fret to get a perfect sound either.
Question Author
Hi Ludwig, that sounds great too. Can you give me details of the Shubb you use (model number etc)...I can't access the link from the site here. Ta Muchly.
It's model C1b ..maybe this link works better.

Question Author
Thanks for that info Ludwig...I still can't access your link, nor anyone's, so I'll have a look on amazon, the same too for the other capos mentioned by the other guys. Ta Muchly.
