only chart act in the UK to have a hit with this was Cliff and the Shadows in 1962 when they got to number 2.
Barry Blue also did a different song with a similer title.

Think the original might have been by Bobby Freeman (also did Come On and Swim), but there have been many cover versions: didn't the Rollers do a version?

Question Author
Mike, the barry blue hit was called DANCING ON A SATURDAY NIGHT.
I think it was Bobby Sherman who did the original of the song Cliff recorded.
Topman, "Do you wanna dance" was the follow up to "Dancing on a saturday night".

Cruthinboy, the rollers first chart single in 1972 was called , keep on dancing, maybe your thinking of that. Ithink your right with bobby freeman, thats who i thought did the original.   THANKS.
Sure it wasn't Bobby Sherman - unless he did a cover version - definitely Bobby Freeman.

Ooh Topman Topman - I'm sure "keep on Dancin'" was 1971 (-:

It's prob. Barry Blue I'm thinking of  - knew some teeny bop 70s act had done a version.

Question Author
Cruthinboy, think i will go for bobby freeman, I think it was released in the late fifties.?
Yeah, about 58 I think - doubt if it was a hit in the UK ,but maybe wrong.
Didnt the beach boys do it as well? either that or its a different song with the same title!
Question Author
was it played on the northern soul scene?
Wouldn't hace thought so topman - a bit too R&R -(mind you some weird stuff was palyed!) - I remember  buying his C'Mon and S-W-I-M at an all-niter - it was really more mod/6ts than your classic Northern stomper.
"Keep on dancing" by the BCRs was 1971 and a totally different song originally by the Gentrys.
The Ramones covered it too. Much to my shame, I think I remember ALL the lyrics of Barry Blue's Dancin' on a Satuday Night.

What like:

"Roller coaster -  gotta make the moster, dance, dance dance the night away"
