What instrument is used to play the Russian song Kalinka, and how difficult would it be for a beginner to play?

And is it the song that used to have that funny dance associated with it?

It's often played on balalaikas. These look like triangular guitars. Generally 3 or 6 stringed (3 pairs). If you already play a guitar these should be easy to learn. Otherwise it would be like learning the guitar. I don't think Bert Weedon did a "play in a day" book" for the balalaika!
