So come on guys.... where you there?

Was it as fantastic as I imagine and did you actually realise at the time that you stood in front of such amazing icons in music for the future?

I dipped in and out of it on telly all day.  To be honest, I was amazed by the number of old farts on the bill, a load of the bands on it had already split up and reformed just for the day.  There were some highlights, but as commerciality lay at the heart of the line-up (the idea here, and quite rightly, was to make as much money as possible, so the bigger the band the better) it ended up being very very tedious.

At home in Liverpool with my big bro and his girlfriend (now his wife).  Feeling a bit bored halfway through, he went upstairs for about half an hour and came downstairs dressed up as a woman for a laugh.  I think that sticks out more than anything!!

same here.....i tuned in to watch as it had been hyped up as this amazing event but it was a bit flat

i guess if it were edited down it would be far far better !

I would have liked to have been there, not watching it on telly.  Unfortunately I wasn't born til the year after it happened, but I would imagine it was worth being in Wembley Stadium that day.

what i now find to be the most amazing thing of the day is that not only did Hebejebe's big brother go upstairs for about half an hour only to come downstairs dressed up as a woman for a laugh... but so did Mattk's brother! staggering coincidence if you ask me

;-)

Well I know I would have loved and I wouldn't have found it at all tedious. They are all legends!

I agree with lookslikemik - i also found it rather tedious to watch, the likes of Phil collins etc. and lots of mediocre performances from acts past their best like Bowie, even Led Zep was weak.

Maybe I am cynical, but what sticks in the craw most is that if all those millionaire artists were to contribute a fraction of their salaries, or do without the backstage caviar and private limosines and 5 mansions on costa del sol they could probably do a hundred times more good for the world. Instead they came on stage, giving a few moments of their precious time,  and had the gall to ask US, the working public, to send in our money!

I think a lot were partly motivated by being "seen" doing good - trying to improve their public image at the same time.

I watched it on tv & I loved it!

However it was at a time in my life when I could have watched Des O'Connor, backed by Whitney & Mariah all day & thought it was wonderful!....well maybe :-)

Caught bits of it, though I wasn't terribly impressed.
Well, I was still at school at the time and had a Saturday job so missed a big chunk of it. I thought it was a bit of a curate's egg (Bob Dylan was a dog's egg) with Queen being the highlight. Later I worked with a girl who actually went to it and she loved it.
God I agree........I had a saturday job and the show was still on when i finished work; most of the singers were in their thirties at least(!!) and no chance to see the likes of sayfrankie goes to hollywood, th cure, the damned or summat that lots of kids liked at the time. Extremely unhip bands; I even remember the beachboys there. Today would be a very different story, though 'Macca' would still probably try to appear....
Was on my first summer holiday in Magaluf with my friends and don't remember a thing about that day - but I'm sure it was brilliant.
Phil '******' Collins was so concerned by the plight of the starving millions that he did his Wembley slot, climbed into a STINKING GREAT PLUSH MULTI-MILLION POUND PRIVATE JET, and went off to 'entertain' at the Philadelphia version too. Ohhhhhh, the irony. Still, watching Richard Skinner (remember him? No, thought not) going all pale and sweaty as Sir Bob launched into his televised swearathon was quite funny.
Cah! Sweary filter won't let me type the word that starts with T and rhymes with 'crosser'. Cut me some slack, sweary filter. I mean, this IS Phil Collins we're talking about. :O)
