60s Mod Music
Hi there,
It's my uncles birthday next month and I'm trying to get some 1960s music that Mods would have been dancing too!
I desperately need some ideas of what songs would be good to play. The party is going to be about 4-5 hours so I really do need all the help I can get!
Thank you in advance for any help that you may be able to offer with my playlist.

I "grew up" in the 1960s and could consider myself a mod.
While the Who were the ultimate Mod band, their music does not really lend iteslf to dancing. The Small Faces were also a Mod band and had a few pop hits.
I seem to remember there was a lot of Ska music at that time, Desmond Decker and so on.
And of course Tamla Motown was VERY big in the 60s (Supremes, Four Tops, Stevie Wonder etc etc).
Also Soul (Otis Redding, Aretha Franklin, Percy Sledge, Sam and Dave and so on).
While he may have been a Mod, he would have danced to many other "pop" hits (Equals etc), and they will bring back memories.
Even the Rolling Stones songs like Satisfaction were great dancing songs.
I would not concentrate TOO much on the mod them, just buy a few of those 60s box sets and that will go down well.

The Who had been playing clubs and pubs from 1694 which was really the hight of the Mod movement - They and the Small Faces were the Mod bands because they were Mods.
Mod music was (as stated) West indian Ska and US R&B, thats old style, not whats called R&B now.
All though some of the tunes on Booldwag's compilation are mod Double Barrel for instance wasn't released until 1971 and some wouldn't be classed as Mod.
Some mods didn't even gravitate to english bands at all.
Oh and March of the Mods was a dance band thing (maybe Joe Loss) and really not down with the kidsat all. :-)
