shocking , cant say the figures are a mighty big surprise though , after watching a docu a couple weeks ago about all these street gangs and the amount of rape that occurs within them. dreadful

An eye opener for me.
Thank fk im here and not there.

Not that id be a target obviously.
But the father of the girl set on fire in the wheelie bin must feel terrible
Scotland????

where's that??
dont kid yourself on , do you think its only the UK that it happens ?

as for the father ,well i couldnt even try to comprehend what he is going through.
Very often, these kids have parents who were little more than children themselves when they had them. It can happen anywhere. Lack of parental guidance, lack of education and support, parents on drink and/or drugs, who couldn't care less. Most of all, a strong lack of love.

dusty i cant imagine.

i just heard that a child as young as 4 sexuually assaulted another child??

i cant even believe thats possible

just too weird
Question Author
icey it says that 7 out of 10 children who abuse were abused.

beyond belief
see theres a small part of me that wonders if that particular case is like PC gone wrong , if something little was made into a much bigger issue because i cannot fathom in my mind on how a four year old child could possibly sexually abuse another child.
sorry for my joke..didn't read the thread....

but this sounds horrific.....are the statistics for scotland....or is it nationwide???

abuse runs in families...and these are people who should never have had kids...full stop.
abuse leaves too many scars.......
I agree dusty, unless of course, these poor mites've had it done to them, or they see such things and think it's "normal".

The thing is, some folk are becoming hysterical about it now. I can remember at school when boys of 6 or 7 used to lift teh girls skirts - in devilment. Some of the girls did it to other girls as well - to expose their sometimes embarrasing knickers! Not particularly nice, but I wouldn't class that as sexual assault.
I remember being thrown to the ground by a fellow 4 year old...and given a very sloppy kiss..........would that be classified as abuse now? Would we be questioning that little boys motives???

This is NOT to belittle the truly awful cases....but you do wonder sometimes
yip icey totally agree, its a fine line but who knows where it has to be drawn. i remember in school having my trousers pulled down as a laugh , yeah for me i was mortified but if that happened these days the outcome would be completely different.there would be social workers questioning motives and would lead to who knows where.
Exactly. Children are naturally curious about bodies - not, I believe because they experience sexual feelings at such a tender age, but because it's natural curiousity as to why boys and girls are different.
I think if a child habitually touched or tried to expose themselves or others, then it'd raise a question mark as to why, but I personally see a vast difference between playfulness on the odd occasion, and a deliberate and forceful act.
Question Author
well from what i saw on the programme i think it may have been more than kissing
+the giy talking about what he ahd seen and done when he was 11 made me wonder if its what they see at home

and innocently doing stuff

if noone corects them
and tells them whats wrong
theyll obviously continue

biut dusty it was barnardos sayin about the 4 year old i thought?
if so i assume it was serious

tho still mind boggling
firstly no i am not shocked i come across it at work every day what is shocking is that there is a greater chance they will be adult abusers if left untreated.

Dont believe any 4 year old is capable of sexual assault they dont have the capacity to understand the concepts involved. However oftrn young children iof similiar age can be involved in sexual exploration
I think sometimes its a learned behaviour, so the 4 year old maybe learnt it from another abuser.
Four's an extremely young age to be doing anything intentionally untoward, although this needn't be so for an 11 year old.
Some of the children taken into care've suffered horrible abuse, and are probably acting out what they've seen or had done to them.
Tragic, but many of these kids've never been told what's right or wrong.
kids grow up too fast these days, an 11 year old for example is going through puberty and having loads of changes to his/her body and feelings which they probably havent had to deal with before and as horrible as it sounds to say but if there is a younger child "available" to them then i can kinda see why things like this happen so readily.

not that there is any excuse obviously.

its very disturbing eitherway
