Hi NoK,

Assuming we are referring to UK number ones, I can think of the three each for McCartney and Lennon

McCartney
- Mull of Kintyre
- Ebony and Ivory
- Pipes of peace

John Lennon-
- Just like Starting Over
- Woman
- Imagine

Have I missed any or do you disagree with any, NoK?
I'm assuming that we are ignoring all the Beatles singles as they were credited jointly to Lennon&McCartney
"A World Without Love" by Peter and Gordon was also written by McCartney, but credited to Lennon/McCartney - not sure if this counts for McCartney or both!

I just wanted a straight number ones for macartney as a songwriter and the number ones for lennon as a song writer. Not together.
Thanks for your help so far
another one for john lennon, jealous guy, roxy music. feb 1981
Excellent, sambro.
While with the Beatles ALL the Lennon and McCartney songs had to be credited to BOTH of them, even if the other one had little or nothing to do with it.

"Yesterday" for example was a totally McCartney song, but still had to be creditied as Lennon / McCartney.

And Lennon wrote songs like I am the Walrus and Strawberry Fields on his own, but still had to credit McCartney.

Thats why on the McCartney song "Man we was lonely" (on his first solo album) he wrote the lines

I USED TO RIDE ON MY FAST CITY LINE,
SINGING SONGS THAT I THOUGHT WERE MINE ALONE, (alone) ALONE.
