HP Docking Station Power Adaptor

I recently bought a Docking Station for my HP Laptop but the Mains Lead which plugs into the Power Adaptor has only 2 Pins which suggests it is a European Connector. My question is would it be OK for me to just simply purchase a 3 Pinned UK Power Lead and plug it in to the Mains Adaptor or is it possible that the Mains Adaptor itself is European, is there way of telling from the writing on it??

Thanks in advance for any advice you can offer me as I'm worried that I may damage my laptop if I attempt to connect it up to the Docking Station.

No it doesn't;

it just means that the mains adapter is a double insulated (class two) one and therefore does not need an earth.

thats perfectly normal for laptop PSUs

look on the PSU, if it has this symbol (a lot smaller obviously) then it's class 2 and doesn't need an earth

I can't see that symbol anywhere on the PSU but it does say on it "connect only to grounded outlet" but if I buy a 3 pinned lead to connect to it, will it be OK?

look on the box .. some come with a cunning doffer that clips on to the front and turns it into an english 3 prong

if there isn't one - take it back - or ring them ... it's not legal to sell electrical goods with the wrong connector

we once had this with 2000 laptops - each new lead arrived in it's own box ...

Yeah sorry for any confusion here I mean the plug that goes into the wall socket has only 2pins (like on an electric razor)

I've looked in the box there are no additional fittings unfortunately, I just thought if I got a 3 pinned plug I could plug this into the PSU and all would be OK....

it will be ok ... but the principle is you should get the right one in the box

it's a pain carrying yet another adapter - you payed good money ... I'd go for it ... if there is a guarantee dispute - they won't think twice about using your adapter against you.

I'll just ask the shop to send me the right lead if they don't I'll demand a refund, the power issue was my only concern as you don't get any second chances!!!
