Vocal amplification

Can anyone tell me if you can use a guitar amp to put vocals through on? Or do you need a specific amp for vocals, just like you need a bass amp for a bass guitar, guitar amp for guitar etc...

For more on marking an answer as the "Best Answer", please visit our FAQ.You can play a guitar through a bass amp and still sound good....Fender Bassman amps from the 50s fetch huge prices from guitarists.....Vocals can be amplified through nearly any stand alone amp though most bands (assuming we are talking about singing here) will just put vocals direct through the PA with some reverb added.
