Virtual memory too low.

A bubble popped up on my computer, telling me my virtual memory is too low. It also said something else regarding the virtual memory, but the bubble disappeared before I had time to jot the wording down.

Is this a serious problem and should I be taking any action regarding it?

Thanks for any replies. xxx

How much real memory do you have in your computer?

Right click on "my computer" and select properties and it will tell you, if you have less then 1Gb of RAM then increasing your real memory by fitting another RAM chip is the best option for getting rid of low virtual memory problems.

Thanks Chuck. It says I have 448 MB of RAM. Is this not very much?
mrs.c I get this a lot on my computer and the message is SOMETHING like 'Your virtual memory is too low so Windows is increasing the size (?) and during this period some requests for applicatons will be denied'

I am afraid, as I'm not very good with the technology I have ignored this message for about the last 18 months and haven't noticed any 'requests' being 'denied' They say ignorance is bliss - but listen to Chuck and not me !

That's the message I got, yoga. It's good to read that it's not making a difference to your computer! (Wish I knew more about the blasted things).
Yeah 448MB is not enough for windows to run happily.

Look at adding about another 1GB, that would solve your problem with virtual memory and will make a very noticeable difference in the overall speed of your computer.

If you look here there is a scanner that will tell you what ram to buy and there are instructions on fitting on the site too.

You don't have to buy the ram from this place, just make sure you buy some that matches the specs

yogasun, same goes for you if your getting a lot of virtual memory low problems.
Thanks very much Chuck. Although I was rather flippant in my posting I appreciate your help as my computer has become very slow. I will act on your advice. Sorry to hijack post mrs. c x

Thanks a bunch, Chuck.

Good luck with yours, yoga.
Chuck

How does one get 448MB anyway?????
It's probably 512 really but windows kindly grabs a load for itself.
Cheers Mrs.chappie for asking the question and double cheers to Chuck for answering it!! I did the test too and found I only had a miserable 192mb!!! (No wonder I have been throwing things at the screen) As they say - when you know better you do better! Now who can I get to help me install 1GB??? Shirl
Question Author
I've got that problem too, Shirl. Think I might find a computer shop and ask them to fit it for me.
scotman,

It will be 512MB in the machine but the on board graphics card will be using 64MB of it leaving 448MB available for windows to use.
Chiuck
Thanks for that.
