Celebrity / jungle rubbish!

Am i the only person in the country that has NEVER, EVER seen one episode of the Celebrtity / Jungle thing? (Nor do i want to).  Is there anyone else out there that is fed up to the back teeth of having Reality TV pushed upon us at every available opportunity, or am i totally abnormal? xx:)

I watched it last year but ONLY because John Lydon was in it. I totally lost interest afterwards.

No, you're not alone.  Never watched it, don't intend to.  Same goes for X Factor and Big Brother et al.

 

I confess to watching Hells Kitchen as there was a point to it i.e. running a business under what appeared to be quite intense pressure but the rest are just drivel.

I hate all these reality programmes as well. I've never watched any episodes of I AC or BB,and as for The Salon, viewers may just as well have look through the window of their nearest hairdressers! Bring back "Normal" TV.

Well I watched I'm a celebrity,Get me out of here tonight and it was great...Watching Paul Burrell gagging on a Kangeroo ******* was absolutelty hilarious.

 

 

As was Frans reaction to wearing a square headset full of eels,fish and spiders and Joe Pasquales Rat encounter...If those events don't entertain you then I'm sure you'll enjoy Emmerdale and Coronation Street immensly.

I only watched last year on and off till John Lydon went off being a Sex Pistol fan and knowing how unpredictable he is. Never watched it since but you cant help knowing who is in there, most of which I have never heard of (I only know Huggy and Janet from my youth).It should be renamed I am a z list wanna be **** so keep me IN the jungle.

It is chavscum brain numbing TV as is Big Brother, X factor, Pop Idol, Salon, Hells Kitchen.

And Shirlz, Sorry to disapoint you but I have NEVER in my 39 years seen Emerdale or Coronation Street.

Eastenders/Cracker/a few Bills I can admit to. On the whole I only watch nature progs/documentaries/films

Infact we are considering getting rid of the TV altogether when the licence runs out in March.

Rants aside people, what you have to accept is that for every one of you, there are ten thousand who are glued to the shows - and more importantly, to the adverts that go with them - and that is why they continually peddle this particular type of entertainment. T'was ever thus - lowest common denominators dominate in almost all forms of culture - back in the days when Ken Dodd outsold the Stones - and it will go on, because that is what we like, as a society. I'm intrigued by Mattk's observation that he has never watched IAC, but has an opinion anyway.

I too am fed up of all this reality TV rubbish, but I have to agree with shirlz.  The final got left on my TV last night whilst cooking, and Paul Burrell's challenge was the funniest TV i have seen in ages!

Well I like it!  I like watching so-called celebs having to do tasks that I could never in a million years even contemplate doing.  So what if they may be trying to revive dead careers?  So what if they are trying to make the public see them in another light?  It does make great TV, and the viewing figures confirm that.

 

I must admit though, that I don't watch all reality TV, have never been a BB fan, watched The Salon very occassionally (mostly because I'm at work whilst it's on!).  If you don't like these programmes, it's quite simple - do something else!  Change the channel, read a book, go for a run....

Londondave how old are you?  Janet Street Porter is a very successful career woman, and does not need reality TV to boost her career.  I'm only 22 and I know that, and have always seen her around (not jut from whenI was little).  She's 58 for Gawd sake, she wants a challenge and slated the programme herself before agreeing to go on.

 

Give these people a break, if I was asked to do it I would give it a go and see how far I could push myself and make me and my family proud.

IAC is really bad, but Ant and Dec have really made this year's jungle adventure more bearable.  If you were running a TV company though, what would you do?  Invest a lot of money in a series that may or may not be popular?  Or make another reality TV show that the public seem to be hooked on?  I agree, it does take a certain lack of intelligence to watch these shows but, alas, they seem to be the overwhelming majority.

I've never watched it either.  I used to watch BB but I've given up on that now too.  I do like Pop Idol etc but I think they're slightly different in tone.  There's definitely a general dearth of new ideas in TV at the moment - everything seems to be very formulaic.

Never watched any of the series. Always switch channels if they mention it on the news or chat shows. And skip that page in the newspaper.

 

The world might be a saner place if all the so-called celebrities were all left in the jungle to suffer for ever - although it wouldn't be fair on the jungle!

natalie_1982, if you had read what I wrote properly you will see that I said that I "ONLY" had heard of Janet & Huggy I am 39 so know her very well from my youth and even met her once when she was going out with Tony James from Generation X. I did not say a bad word about her. You are 22,  I feel sorry for you as I had too  many friends and a great social life to be sitting in watching tv at that age.

A couple of points:

 

1. Shirlz, I don't watch soaps, either. *shudders at the thought*
2. natalie_1982, it makes popular TV, not great TV. I do do something else while it is on (I suspect that most of this sort of television's detractors do) - I was showing solidarity with kaz35 in my answer. I realise that many people get enjoyment out of the show and it's ilk (that said, many people get enjoyment from badger-baiting), I just feel that such shows pander to the lowest common denominator. BTW, I don't for one moment believe that any of the so-called celebrities who have to prostitute themselves on such shows are doing it for "the challenge". If this were true, they would feature better than C-list (and that's being generous to them!) level stars.

listening to radio 4 in the taxi last night, one of last years was being interviewed I forget who, but she said she got �25000 for doing the show. All the challenges are tried and tested beforehand and at no point are they in any danger
