Has a song like this ever been released in the US or any other countries with a similar purpose to Band Aid?

Shortly after the original Band Aid single a collection of artists in the USA released 'We Are the World', under the title of USA for Africa.  It was written by Michael Jackson and Lionel Ritchie, and included them, as well as stars such as Stevie Wonder, Bruce Spingsteen, Diana Ross etc.  I think there was also a Canadian record by the like of Bryan Adams, Neil Young etc, but don't remember the title.

Ronnie James Dio (Rainbow, Black Sabbath, Dio) got a collection of 'Heavy Metal' artists together and recorded a song in the Band Aid style. The 'group' was named Hear n Aid.
The Canadian version was called "Tears Are Not Enough", and the conglomeration of artists was billed as "Northern Lights."
Is Band Aid and Live Aid the same thing and the ruskies tried to copy band Aid, The Red Army Choir sang the soviet national anthem and sold it for benifits
There was also an Irish one but I can't remember the name of it at present
