Hope this is the right category-does not seem to be a stand out correct one. We are having a small christening party for our some and are going to try to do it ourselves. There will be about 30 adults and five or six children coming. We need to know stuff like how much food to prepare, what sort of drinks to have ready etc etc. Christening is at 10 and after will probably start at 12.
Know it is a bit of a toughie but would appreciate any feedback
thanks

Put out buttered rolls and sliced meat, say 1lb each of ham, beef, chicken/turkey. get two dozen bridge rolls and cut in half top with 1/2 dozen eggs, add snipped in box of cress and mayo, and on the ones left 4 tins of tuna, drained add mayo or salad dressing, Go to somewhere like Iceland and get sausage rolls, (get bite sized ones, popular with the kids) chicken drumsticks, quiche, cocktail sausages, four lots of '4' dips, and multi-bags of crisps, bread sticks, couple of lettuce, 1 cucumber, 1kg tomatoes cut into quarters, sliced spanish onions, celery sticks, cook 1kg baby new potatoes and when cold cut in half, add diced spring onions and mayo for potato salad. Shred 1 small or 1/2 a large white cabbage 2 large carrots and some some very finely chopped onion, add mayo or dressing for coleslaw. to boiled pasta add chopped peppers and mayo for pasta salad. To cooked rice add diced peppers, peas, onion, for rice salad. Hard boiled eggs in half. Kids will eat things like chicken nuggets, sausages, corn snacks, Iceland again for gateaux, cheesecakes - they do larger sizes. For something a little luxurious, smoked salmon, or prawns, for seafod sauce, add 1 part tomato ketchup to two parts mayo, dash of worcester sauce, squeeze of lemon. hope this helps
Yes agreed with first poster people always like buffets. Quiches are good if you pre cut them into slices then your guests won't be too piggy. They're cheaply made. Buy the pastry ready made, buy some cheap packs of bacon or make a veggie option with asparagus or smoked salmon perhaps. You could serve them warm if you have time with big bowls of salad. I would disagree about sandwiches though (sorry merciasounds) I think people do like sandwiches. But I'd make them simple, just ham or chicken, something like that. As you'll be getting back at lunchtime, you might want to consider the other option of making a hot dish like a curry or beefy casserole which can be made the day before. Just serve with bowls of new potatoes tossed in chives and parsley. I wouldn't recommend rice as you'll have to faff around cooking it at the last minute. I went to a christening last year and instead of a cake they had a tiered cake stand with cup cakes on it. You could decorate the cakes with the name of the baby or just how the fancy takes you. You can also order cupcakes online at several places http://www.thelittlec...o.uk/Newarrivals.html
http://www.caketoppers.co.uk/ - there are loads. If you want to make them yourself, look at google images for inspiration. As for drinks. A sherry or glass of wine on arrival (put both on a table near the door and people can choose one or the other) and something bubbly for the toast a Cava perhaps. I love champers but lots of people don't oddly enough. It's senseless forking out money for expensive Champagne on these occasions. Make sure there are lots of soft drinks for children and drivers. Have fun.
