my dad used to sing a song that began, 'twas on st patrick's day, that a young lad blythe and gay, set sail from ireland, far far away' did he make it up or does anyone else remeber those words. thanks

Why are there so many Irish songs about getting away from Ireland....?

.....and once they get away... they spend the rest of their lives singing songs about take me back to Ireland...

dad wasn't irish he just sang this song, but you are quite right about them coming here and then moaning about going home.
