R.I.P. Zenani Mandela

The 13 year old, great granddaughter of Nelson Mandela was killed in a car crash, returning from the special concert to celebrate the start of the football tournament.

With all the celebrations going on regarding the World Cup, what a terrible thing to happen to the Mandela family..

The police are treating the crash as probable homicide - not unusual in traffic accidents where negligence is suspected, so it looks as if it was a case of drunken driving.

Its very sad, she looked to be a pretty girl when they showed her on the news. The reporter on yesterdays news about the bus crash in South Africa said that there were a great many more traffic accidents in SA than in the UK,

the NY Times are more up to date and he has been charged with negligent homicide as far as i read it before, won't bring the little girl back debating the point though I guess

Extremely sad - kind of like when a close family member dies at Christmas. For the Mandela family, in future when they look back on the games, whether they are a success or not, they will think abou the death of Zenani.

Hope you've stopped vomiting, Orcad, but for the majority of people sympathy/empathy is not an either/or emotion.
It is possible to feel sad about more than one thing at a time.
Just because we express our feelings about this event does not mean we don't feel strongly about other things and people.
You are obviously emotionally inadequate. It's a shame.

The driver was apparently drunk.That was on the news report I heard.

Losing a loved one at any time is tragic - I cant understand why Christmas or any occasion makes it worse (sorry not being obtuse just my opinion).

Any unexpected death is shocking and heartbreaking.
I would be more inclined to *vomit* if we DIDN'T show emotion.
That's what makes us human....
And in the case of the Mandela family-they have been in our consciousness for several generations...of course we will feel for them.

No-one was having a pop at you -I for one was saying that you cant differentiate between grief and im uncomfortable about anyone high lighting any high profile death.
TBH -it really tees me off and what you were doing was high lighting other deaths-its not a bleeding competition you know.

i have on many occasions, only to be taken to task for doing so by some ABers, with such answers as "they knew when they joined up, what the job entailed." "They are only in the Army, because they can't get a job otherwise"

Yes there are a nice selection of individuals here on AnswerBank.
