Lou Reed, Brian Eno, What Next?
23 Answers
Good Afternoon.
I just wondered if anyone could point out a few music sign-posts for me please.
Currently listening to a lot of Lou Reed and Brian Eno - that is, one album of each.
Brian Eno - Here Come The Warm Jets
Lou Reed - Transformer
Anyway, what has attracted me to both albums is the kind of tightly restrained madness. It consists of strange noises and "camp" song structure. Anyone who has heard both these albums will understand what I mean by this (I hope!).
What I want to know is: Are there any other artists who offer this kind of sound/structure? Contemporaries or otherwise?
Yrs,

If you love Eno you've got to explore the first few Roxy Music albums for his contributions and influence ...
and Lou Reed's Perfect Day is sublime ... can it be anymore relaxed?
but for version even worse than the BBC promo try this ...

Eno's 'Taking tiger mountain' is in the same vein as Warm jets. been listening to that a lot myself recently. the next lp was 'another green world' which was the start of his ambient and instrumental stuff. From then on, there were no more quirky songs like tiger and warm jets.
Frank Zappa/mothers of invention did some albums you might like.
try:
-we're only in it for the money
-One size fits all
-Apostrophe'
-You are what you is
-overnite sensation
-absolutely free.
Also Bowie: Hunky dory, Aladdinsane, Scary monsters, low and hereos. The latter has Eno involved.
Iggy Pop's the idiot was done at around the same time as heroes.
Try also Momus: Little red song book, Ocky Milk, Joemus, and his new one hypnoprism due in sept!
