Storytime with Uncle Clackie - does anyone know anything about this ?

It was a kids TV programme in the 1960 or 1970`s i think, but i have two albums but cant find any reference to them....

Any help would be greatly appreciated

I have never heard of this and there is nothing I can find on internet. Hang onto them, they are probably valuable now.

Yes, I had been there but didn't think it worth mentioning as it doesn't add anything. I certainly don't remember any TV programme .

I also found that single reference, and tried to get hold of the author, but since it was posted in 2004 not much luck....

I have a date of 1975 on one of the LP`s, and that it was narrated by Clark McKay that is it other than it states A DJ PRODUCTION no other reference at all, my partner seems to believe it was a TV program that her kids used to watch?

I still have four, original tapedeck cassettes from this series. They do have a reference number, starting with 'dj'; I can post those, if anyone is interested in knowing those. They contain a range of narrated children's stories, and which from memory, had reasonable sound effects. They were brilliantly told, and I used to listen to them over and over again as a child. I am now attempting to convert them to a digital file for my children...but first have to dig out my old tape player and hope that works...and then hope that the tapes still work! Fingers crossed...

Hi, thanks for that link; I only logged in, today, and as luck would have it, found one of these devices at a local supermarket that I happened to visit, which I never normally go to, so I suppose it was 'meant to be', as they say. I have at least managed to listen to the first story (and remember many of the lines, from about 30+ years ago!). It is fairly 'scratchy', with a good deal of 'noise' (sounds a bit like static), on top of the main track. From memory, I got these tapes in 1978, or maybe a year or two earlier. There is a date of 1975 on the sleeve, and it says they were 'produced by Robert Schroder for Disc Jockey Music Co. (Pty) Ltd'. I know that 'Uncle Clackie' was Clark McKay, a well known radio presenter in South Africa in the 70's and 80's (and before); I know he died quite some years ago. He worked for Springbok Radio, in South Africa, way back when. :-)

BTW, what are the two albums that you have? I have the ones beginning with Cinderella (and other stories) (DJ40011), Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves (and other stories) (DJ40012), one with Beauty and the Beast (and other stories) (DJ40013), and one with Gulliver's Travels (and other stories) (DJ40014).

Well that actually makes sense now that you have said South Africa, my fault for being slow on the uptake :>) with your username being Springbokkie ......

That is where my partner used to work, just outside Joberg and where the daughter was born, I always assumed they were from the UK, as I have never listened to them ( if i did, might just have realised he was South African ) and she never mentioned that.

Unfortunately I gave up, and gave the rest of my vinyl that didn`t sell to a DJ, about a year ago, I dont know if he still has them, I was always intrigued to as to what they actually sounded like, my partner said that both the kids enjoyed them and kept them quiet !

At least I can get this unsolved file out of my head now, so many thanks for that, I would still be interested to hear a soundbite if you have recorded them..

Keep me updated, and I try to find the titles of the ones i had

Indeed, it's a small world! Will keep you posted. Curious to know the titles, and whether there were others, aside from the four I have. I found an LP / vinyl version on an auction site, although it is a duplicate of one of those that I have. Let's keep this thread open, for now. :-)
