One of the greatest drummers of all time. He used a very small kit but had a big sound.

I think you're correct.
John Bonham is an anagram of Johann Bohm who was a German Bohemian chemist.
Bonham was an amazing player, and remains a masive influence on modern drummers. i write for Rhythm magazine, and most players of today regard Bonham as a huge influence on their playing.

As I have mentioned before, his combinations of sledge-hammer force and delicate fills are immitated, but never equalled.
excellently put, andy. a true legend and still missed. ah, knebworth '79.... sigh :(
IMHO, the best rock drummer ever! I saw Led Zep at Knebworth & they were astonishing...
just looking on wki, and it says a tribute concert was planned for 25th (last night). Do you know if it happened andy?
The drum intro to Rock 'N' Roll on "4" is one of the most memorable and distinctive intros in rock.

It doesn't seem like 30 years. Wow !
