Have a look here - looks like about £25k average. http://www.payscale.c...United_Kingdom/Salary
^^ no that's not right, looks like about £18-£20K from that chart. I heard somewhere that it is £25K
Daily Mail, but here's some data http://www.dailymail....-600-just-months.html
On the news it said it will be capped at 26k
or targetting the hard working?

should perhaps be made fairer by cutting it where a families combined income is over a set figure.

would probably save a lot of cash by having a sliding scale compared to number of children. it might prevent the cases where couples have more children in order to boost their income.

If the average income is about 20K this will mean swingeing cuts for some single moms. This government has no heart.
I posted this on another thread the other day...it relates to what people SHOULD be earning. 25,000 may be an average, but that says nothing about the extreme highs and lows so prevalent. I know it certainly is not the average down here in the west country.

Nor here in the N E pasta
the lowest paid wage for over 18 is £5-65 per hour.

I agree with what they are doing.
I tend to agree with high earners not getting Child Benefit but I think it should be based on the household income not on one of the parents earning over £44k. Is it really fair that two parents earning say £40k each will still get the CB? - Barmy!
I believe the average wage is around £26k - to answer the question!
According to the Office of National Statistics 2009 Salary Survey, median annual pay in the UK is 21,320, and the average is 26,470. 10% of salaries are greater than 46,278 and 10% are less than 6,680.
In answer to chattykathy, they are doing it this way because it is simple and therefore cheap to do.

Doing it on household income would be a lot more complicated.
Don't agree with the way they're implemented these cuts, should be on the household income, not the individual who may earn 44k when the other partner may earn nothing, the other scenario is that ther can be two parents earning 40k each and they will still qualify............it's just very unfair!...........
