A very long shot!

About 35 years ago, honestly, I got from a book club a novel which traced the history of an inn in what is now East Anglia from the Roman times up to, I think, the Second World War.
It wasn't one of those books to be kept but as I now live in East Anglia, I would like to read it again but obviously I've forgotten its name.
Does anyone of my tender years recognise it and know either its title or author, a woman I think?

I may suggest going to a local independent book shop...they normally stock books of the area detailing the history of villages etc, and they may be able to try and narrow down the options

Talk about putting brains together, my other half suggested A Wayside Inn which sounded good, but it brought up pages of Longfellow, I then thought, in the middle of Countdown, Norah, and together we found A Wayside Tavern by Norah Loft and Amazon directed me to sites with copies, so job done!
