As it's St Andrews day.

What's your favourite Scottish band / Musician / piece of music ?
Feel free to discuss further if you like.

Mine:

The Cocteau Twins, Biffy Clyro, The Fratellis, Shooglenifty.

The Cocteau Twins were the first band I heard that use their own made up language, I love Liz Fraser's vocals and she has a lovely gentle way about her in the rare interviews I've seen. I have a few of their CDs - Bluebell Knoll and Four Calendar Cafe are my favourites.

Biffy Clyro and The Fratellis are relatively new on the music scene but think they're both great bands. My fav tracks by them: Fratellis: Flathead, BC: The Captain.

Shooglenifty are a folk/rock band, brilliant musicians, very uplifting stuff. I've seen them twice, the first time at WOMAD, second at Glastonbury.

Annie Lennox ... has to rank very highly, even as far back as the Tourists.

KT Tunstall ... I'm a bit addicted to her new album, 'Tiger Suit'.

Lulu ... for no other reason than 'Shout'.

Johnny & The Self Abusers

John Cummings (of Mogwai fame).

Mogwai ... see above.

Jack Bruce ... for helping out Eric & Ginger occasionally, lol.

Runrig ... very occasionally.

Bon Scott ... and the Young brothers.
A Scottish soldier - Andy Stewart.

Happy St. Andrews day everyone.

AP have you heard any of the Peatbog Faeries stuff? They are also a celtic fusion band (from Skye) and are most excellent.

Jimi McRae is also well worth a listen (if you like the pipes that is)

Can't forget the mighty Nazareth either.
Yes it was boxtops, thanks. I couldn't for the life of me remember what they were called.

Answer prancer, yes they do Gazza being the exception.

Texas weren't bad either.
Runrig for me too - going to see them in Dunfermline next month - followed by The Proclaimers.
Also Alestorm ~ Perth's finest Pirate Rock Band

MN - I've heard of The Peatbog Faeries but not seen/heard them play, I'll have to check them out, I really like this genre.
There is a band I go way back with called Kangaroo Moon who fuse traditional Irish style (tin whistle, fiddle, mandolin) with didjeridu and keyboards - they are a great band.
Also "Dragonsfly" who mix traditional Breton music with their own arrangements, great stuff - very similar to Blowzabella (another great Breton based band).
Isn't anybody going to mention SuBo?!

Aww - the Skids ! That's where Stuart Adamson started out I believe.
I liked "Yankee Dollar" and that "ALBERT TATLOCK!" song they did.
AP they are well worth a viewing if you ever get the chance. Do check them out but beware the crowds can get a bit (very) rowdy!
