Here is a recent question where most expressed a similar level of revulsion to me, yet Burglary still needs mutiple offences before jail is even considered. Why is it such an underated crime, in my view it's equivalent to rape yet it usually goes unpunished. I have in the past suggested a 10 year jail term for this, with predictable whinning from the criminals friends and I stand by that.
I agree Geezer. It is not a minor crime and burglars should be jailed for a long time on the first offence. I absolutely hate burglars. They cause untold mysery.
I agree as well. I was burgled and it effected me quite badly. Knowing someone was in mine and my childrens bedrooms while we slept made me feel sick to the core.
If its yawn and you knew the answer, why post ? I take it you dont have an answer so decided to snipe at R1.
R1 you are right and Mr Howard proved it, jail works. I wouldn't go so far as to bang up on 1st offence I prefer the 3 strikes and out. Strike 1, bolloking and community sentence, Strike 2 All the above plus a month in a proper jail (No tv, playstation, fags, booze or drugs) Strike 3 10-15 years. And none of this nonsence about letting out 1/2 way through sentence.
youngmafgob - because I have a right to old chap. And incidentlally if you're trying to side with R1, he DOESN'T think jail works so your support is a bit missplaced.

tell you what I'd pay more tax if necessary to keep lowlife scum behind bars but outsourcing the whole thing would halve the cost over night anyway and we'd get some proper jails in the process, win win win as far as I can tell. Joe Snotty, apprentice burglar goes to Turkish hell hole, I'm pretty sure his crime carreer is over, end of. geezer for home sec!
Private prisons are performing worse than publicly run prisons. Data obtained under the Freedom of Information Act by More4 News show that four of the 10 private prisons scored the second lowest rating of 2, “requiring development”, and only one above an assessment of “serious concern”.
There are also disparities in the number of complaints upheld in private and state-run prisons. Rye Hill Prison, a private prison run by G4 saw a total of 22 complaints, well above the average in both prison sectors.
The evidence contradicts the government’s claim that the greater use of private prisons has driven up standards. Despite this Serco has been awarded a £600m contract to operate two new prisons at Belmarsh
West in London and Maghull in Liverpool.
I'm not talking about G4 and assorted other charlatans, I'm talking about Turkey or Thialand, Pay them £25k per year per man, that's half price! Sorted!
Why is it such an underated crime, in my view it's equivalent to rape yet it usually goes unpunished. I agree that having your abode broken into and rifed is a very traumatic episode but to compare it to rape is ridiculous and downplaying the severe physical and psychological trauma that rape victims go through.
It's not meant to be, but yes, despite the fact that it carries a hefty custodial sentence on conviction, you rarely find the courts applying the law as they should.
No, instead, and I've witnessed this many times, the gullible courts fall for the Oscar winning performances of the oily slick defence solicitors and barristers and fail to do their duty. So the culprits walk free far more often than not.
However, woe betide you if you're something as serious as a conscientious objector who has decided as a token protest not to pay his council tax of TV licence. You'll get sent down for sure.
No one has ever been able to explain why it wouldn't work, I just get a load of , ooman rights, yada yada yada, hand wringing from our resident criminal loving lefties.
