Is it just me or are modern song lyrics getting more and more 'adult' or is it jsut that now I'm older I'm realising their true meanings? This doesn't really apply to old songs as they were all innocent and gay . . . in the old sense of the word.

if I am right, when did start? probably the 60s I imagine . . .

Red, what about songs by people such as s-club-7 or steps I'm trying to think of their lyrics.
Shirley Bassey's 'kiss me honey' didn't leave much to the imagination and that was ..let see.. over 50 years ago. youtube link if you are interested

It's being older, molly. I was in the 60s and much of the lyrics about weed and the like passed me by.....

boxy and there was Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds, which the Beatles claim was a coincidence.
And, i was totally unaware that the Village People were gay. I just assumed they liked wearing daft costumes.

Ahhh sweet innocence!
Only the red indian, BOO.
oh rofl, really?

See? I still know nowt!
A lot of modern pop songs have suggestive lyrics or lyrics with double meanings which gives them deniability. Rhianna is bad for that, her lyrics are pure filth!!
Thats why my hubby likes her jd, the filthy man.

Plus I'm sure the music videos are getting saucy-er . . .
They are Molly.
Now I dont mind particularly but what happens, in theory, if your 12 year old daughter starts singing "Come on Rude Boy, Is ya Big Enough, take it take it!" and copying the dance moves!
in todays society jd, most parents wouldn't bat an eye.
I am not a fuddy duddy, and I have no doubt danced around like a total kn*b to Rhianna songs when I have been out on the town. It just strikes me as worrying that young kids idolise these people and strive to emulate their image and attitude. I am not a parent yet, but I wouldnt like it if my young daughter copied a "suggestive" dance routine as seen in a pop video

jd and boo, I think it's wierd when small children do that aswell . . . I saw a 5-7 year old singing a contemporary song - she obviously didn't know the real meanings of the lyrics and this old lady came along and had a go at her mum about letting her sing such stuff. That's kinda what made me create this thread.
This was considered very risque in its time.

I remember sitting in a taxi with my mum and my 2 year old daughter - who started singing along to 'I'm Horny, horny horny horny'. On the one hand you could say it was shocking, but on the other hand my mum and I couldn't stop laughing (discreetly of course, she wasn't aware of it)
