Vertical White Line Appears On My Laptop Screen - Only When Its Touching My Knee Or Something
7 Answers
my laptop screen is clear
however at certain times, when something is touching the back of the bottom edge of the screen, by the hinges etc - vertical white lines appear.
they disappear instantly when i move it and often appear in different places.
it doesn't always happen.
any ideas?
NB - i have researched some white lines, and it doesnt appear to be the same problem - most i have seen, the line in permanent and changes colour when pressed etc - this one is always white with no colour
thanks

It should Not be used on a lap because there is a very serious risk of it overheating and damage being caused to internal components. Similarly they should never be placed and used on any soft surfaces such as cushions, bedclothes etc which can block underside vents.
I am inclined to think that you have damaged the screen which might need to be replaced.
A number of laptop cases are somewhat flexible when opened and there is a possibility that the screen has been twisted whilst on your lap and a connection problem has ensued.

the laptop has ice cool function so it does not over heat - i never have it on a cushion or on my knee properly - i sometimes sit with my knees up so it is kind of sitting between my thigh and belly - so the underside is totally clear.
even when it is flat on a surface i raise it up an inch or so to keep it cool.
i have dismantled laptops before so i will check into the loose cable.
its not a big problem at the moment, i am more just wondering if its a sign something is going to break properly.
