I've just looked up Obama's speech after the Boston marathon bombing. He made no mention of Islam or extremism there either.

Perhaps the reason is less to do with PC, and more to do with politics. If you can paint these attackers as 'lone wolves' (as the U.S. tends to do with the many, many, many gun massacres they've had in the past couple of decades), then you don't have to admit that Islamic terrorists have the security services foxed.

Completely not, I don't care for the expression 'straight male' because that only infers that a gay person is somehow bent.

As regards your non-PC version description of a Lesbian, I myself have never heard such a description.
