I thought it would be next year.
But testing and certification has been fast tracked because of the urgency of the situation. In normal times rigorous testing and highly detailed scrutiny takes several years. Corners have been cut, but if it works safely, then many lives will be saved.

And whoever develops the most effective vaccine stands to make a great deal of money.

Well everything has been fast tracked, I said a few weeks ago there's never been a time when the whole world has worked on one single problem together, and shared their findings.

The UK Government is saying Easter for mass roll out of a vaccine.

there may be a vaccine, even an effective one. but "we" (the UK) won't be getting it any time soon. it's an american vaccine, made in america. the US won't be letting it out anytime soon. in his acceptance address yesterday Biden said pretty much just that.

Not sure anyone said that a vaccine could never be developed. We cautioned that it would not be immediate and may takes months, if not years. As it turns out, it will be about a year before we get a jab ourselves.

I haven't seen any mention of whether Pfizer and its partner are able to patent this vaccine - if so, they could charge vast amounts of money for it.

What surprised me this morning, when they were talking about it working for about 90% of people, is that the 'flu jab is only effective for about 50% of people.

we were initially told that the fastest vaccine developed in history was mumps and that took four years. I knew with the labs of the world on it and the potential for reward it'd be much much quicker than that.

12.26 It appears in what I was watching this morning the reason for a 90% rate is because this vaccine has been developed in a entirely different way to how they used to make them, but to complicated to even try and explain.

I was expressing surprise that the 'flu vaccine is only effective for 50% of the people who take it; I believed it was much closer to 100%.

I would have thought this was a form of escapism, and very good news for may be folk who don't dabble in current affairs/politics.

bhg, It's a crude way of trying to explain it, but it appears that past vaccines are grown, like a mold if you like, then broken up into smaller parts and injected into the body. This has not been done like that in any way.

I don't recall anyone saying there wouldn't be a vaccine. As it's yourself asserting that there was, teacake, how about digging a few examples out? or does that not suit your agenda?
