//So where does your 99.97% figure come from (cos its obvs completely bogus, impossibly high,// Is it so impossibly high? At present, there have been 11.45m recorded cases and 147.2k deaths. Leaving aside, for the moment, the potential inaccuracies when recording both these figures, that means 98.7% of those recorded to have contracted the virus...

Remember in July and early August, by popular demand by vast pleading from some of the public and members of AB , with cases of Covid, still rising, hospitalisation and deaths low but still rising, the Government decided to lift the restriction and people thought and acted as if the pandemic had ended...........it hadn't.
Don't blame the virus, but save your blame for the response of the population and the caving in at that time, of the Government.
Brace yourselves for a Christmas lockdown.

Enjoying the gloating Nailit? At least we have less chance of catching it than you do.
Ironically it is thanks to the likes of nailit and that mindset the great British public will get what they deserve for the way a minority have acted throughout this pandemic
Blame it on the fools folks
They helped exacerbate this mess

Are you suggesting, sqad, that the restrictions that were in force until July 19th should have remained in force throughout?
//Most [Covid hospitalisations unvaccinated]
got any real numbers, bob?//
I’ve seen numbers ranging from 40% to 90%. Here’s some evidence from South London:
https:/ /www.my london. news/ne ws/sout h-londo n-news/ south-l ondon-h ospital s-sound -alarm- 2248536 6
“The South West London CCG says figures for October and November show that 97 per cent of adults ending up in hospital with Covid-19 in October and November had not received two doses and a booster of the vaccination.
This was the case at St George’s, Kingston, Croydon University, Epsom and St Helier hospitals.”
I don’t think there’s too much doubt that vaccination drastically reduces the chance of serious illness. As yet there seems no evidence to suggest that this is not also the case for those contracting Omicron. In the last 30 days, new case numbers (7 day average) have doubled. But in that same time the numbers in hospital have actually reduced by 9% and the number of deaths has reduced by 25%. I read today one expert’s suggestion that the recent rise in cases has already seen a number of additional hospitalisations and deaths “baked in” (his term). Well none seems to have been baked in to the rise in cases from four to two weeks ago (plenty long enough for them to feed through to hospitalisations and deaths). I wonder what he knows (or has assumed) about the new cases that make them different to those of the last month.

Not allowed, nailit. It’s heresy. As you say, there lots of varied opinion, not only in how the pandemic might progress but also in what measures should be taken to deal with it. Not only among idiots like me but also among highly qualified and respected experts. But they are all dismissed. The “science” it seems, is settled.
To confirm jourdain’s remarks about the inefficiencies of the NHS, there are now fewer overnight and critical care beds than there were two years ago. NHS management has done nothing in that respect to deal with the likely resurgence of the virus. Me? I’ve had a text, two e-mails and a letter urging me to get my booster. I had it in mid-October. Mrs NJ and I have each had a letter and a text urging us to get our ‘flu jabs. We both had them on September 23rd. It’s an unmitigated shambles.

//The South West London CCG says figures for October and November show that 97 per cent of adults ending up in hospital with Covid-19 in October and November had not received two doses and a booster of the vaccination.//
That doesn't tell me anything.
That statistic could mean 90 per cent of adults ending up in hospital with Covid-19 in October and November had received two doses and of the vaccination.
Why can't we have some clear facts not number manipulation all the time.

NJ, using the daily admission data and summing for the last four weekly periods (7-13 December being the most recent published)
7.12-13.12 = 6,056
30.11- 6.12 = 5,602
23.11-29.11 = 5,375
16.11-22.11 = 5,561
That's an increase of 8.9% over the past four week.
Regarding the deaths, as there is always a lag between a positive test, admission to hospital and a subsequent death, there will also be a lag in any changes in those data.

I don't think Covid respects anyone, nailit. We have to do that ourselves.

I think part of the reason we are heading for another lockdown, and it is probably likely to be after Christmas, I would estimate 27th December, is because people are not taking this seriously. I am totally sick of seeing people on public transport not wearing lanyards for exemption and no mask and the same with shops up here in Scotland. It also infuriates me the unvaccinated people. Rather than lock us all down we should restrict a lockdown particularly of hospitality to the unvaccinated. Why should people who have chosen to have the vaccine 3 times and wear masks be punished for the sake of those ignorant selfish people that just don't care. I tell you why. Because this country is too weak too frightened of offending people. I wrote to the Scottish Government about this very issue and I got a pathetic response saying that they do not tolerate discrimination and bullying against people that cant wear masks. Pathetic. But the same people that don't wear masks and don't get vaccines will be moaning about another lockdown they should be hanging their heads in shame.
choux, it can even happen among the triple jabbed, which may confirm Nailit's suspicions but really does mean we have to take care

jno, I am well aware of that. My friend in Ireland was telling me this evening of a couple who have lost their 2 year old and 5 month old children to Covid. There seems to be little in the news of baby deaths to Covid and I do not know if that is because it is so rare or another reason. To lose a baby to Covid is beyond comprehension don't you think?
No cases in Devon or Cornwall? What planet are you on?
No cases? Tell that to my friend in Newquay and two other members of her family. All triple vaccinated thank goodness so not hospitalised.
Tell it to me who has been waiting for 20 months for a heart op but the hospitals are too busy with covid cases.
No cases? Fewer cases perhaps as people in shops tend to wear masks and sanitise throughout.
No cases? Big upsurges after G7 and all holiday times when there have been a lot of visitors.
I repeat what planet are you on?
