Go on Lonnie - even though I'm English I'm pretty sure you're going to tell me I'm British.
I always say British.

Does that make me a bad person?

Hi Naomi,
I guessed you'd be the first, lol, I also class myself as English, I'm not going to tell you your British, New Labour has done that,

Llamatron,
You'd be right, According to the British Nationality Office helpline, there's now no such thing as English, only British.

im english i dont care what anyone in any office says.english and proud......................
If English is yir nationality, where is the English nation's government situated?

The problem here, is that we have Britain, which is England, Wales, and Scotland, and we are The United Kingdom, which is England, Wales, Scotland and N.Ireland.
Since at least 2002, even though we have the nation of England, there has not been an English Nationality.

I'm not really trying to start a war here, but note, as has been pointed out time, and time again, the majority nationality of our goverment, and they have purposely, only, except for the odd minister, appointed ministers of that nationality to office, and the trait is continuing, under a Browne goverment.
Anyone for a Highland Fling?
I notice you haven't telt me where it is. stokeace
I had a feeling you were going to ask this question.
I am English. If there is no such thing as English, only British..does that mean there is no such thing as Scottish or Welsh?

Can I put 'European' please?
I find this a bit confusing. I'm english cos i was born in England, though I know my nationality is British because I have a British passport. There's an english football team but as far as I know there isn't a british football team.
Where did english stop becoming english? Are we going to be speaking british shortly as well?
Guess where I'm from - lol.

I am led to believe that it now illegal to put English, Scottish, Irish, or Welsh on official forms. We now have to put British...
As I was born in Edinburgh to parents who were also born in Edinburgh I always say that I'm Scottish. On any official document I usually put British........I never say that I'm European! My ex husband was a Londoner and both my sons were born there but raised in Scotland, they regard themselves as Scottish, although English by birth! They do however like to follow West Ham and always support the English National football team.........unless they are playing the Scottish national team of course! Goodness that's all a bit confusing!
I have an European passport..

During the last census I read that it was ok to put Welsh, Scottish or Irish as a nationality but not English. Not sure if that was true, but I put English anyway..because as far as I am aware England is still my country of birth.
I descended from Heaven on a glittering cloud. So I suppose that makes me Scottish.

NJOK,
I had a feeling you were going to come up with a non answer, and in answer to your second reply, I put the phone number on naomi's thread, give them a call and find out.

Pippa68,
I phoned the Nationality Office, to be sure of where I stand on this, according to them, there are no more nations in the United Kingdom, only British, and yes, I know this opens up more questions than answers.

la francaise,
those are the sort of questions i'm talking about.

Haggisdj,
Thats what I was told, have a look at naomi's thread a couple below this, for the phone number.
Thanks, Lonnie! I'll call them right now!

Actually, I won't. Because I couldn't really give a toss.

But cheers!
If it's any consolation the majority of europeans I've met call the whole of the UK, England and the people who live there, English....
