how old for a paperboy?

my lad has been offered a job as a paperboy by the local newsagent, but he only 12 yrs is this legal? the newsagent says that its not down to age anymore its papers weight that matters now? please help as he really wants the work and id hate to stop him if i dont need to.

In most authorities it's 13 or 14. Weight has nothing to with it in that respect, although there are safe practice guidelines concerning how much weight any employee may lift and carry.

Your best bet is to contact the local education authority, who should be able to give you a definitive answer.
