how old for a paperboy?

my lad has been offered a job as a paperboy by the local newsagent, but he only 12 yrs is this legal? the newsagent says that its not down to age anymore its papers weight that matters now? please help as he really wants the work and id hate to stop him if i dont need to.

No, he can't be a paperboy until he is 13 years old, the shop would not be able to insure him until then. He will also have to have a form signed by his headmaster, to ensure that the paper round does not interfere with his education.When he is old enough check with the newsagent about the size of round and degree of danger with regard to traffic. The shop should also provide reflective jackets and some have personal alarms.
