British Leyland like the other "local" car manufacturers knew it was pointless spending money on development whilst the fanatical Marxists trade unions were calling the shots. Hence the rise for BMW, Mercedes, Citroen, Honda, etc. etc. No TU interference in their businesses allowed them to invest and thrive. Like all TU "organisations they started with...
// Public service companies were appallingly run with both poor and weak management and Unions hell bent on destruction. //
Totally untrue. The utilities were a monopoly and had no competition. They were not strike riven or particular inefficient. But they did suffer from under investment by Tory and Labour Governments.
The Nationalised car and steel industries suffered from poor management but they had commercial competition which punished their poor performance.
All these companies were sold off in the first place because the unions had a stranglehold on them, there was not enough money for major improvements works and the government couldn't run a piddle-up in a brewery.
Yay, let's renationalise them all again and not be able to run them again.
"The Nationalised car and steel industries suffered from poor management " - crikey gromit, you forgot the famous Leylanfd loony strikes lead by head cases like Red Robbo. Management could not manage when the men where all out at the drop of a hat.
TTT....as you now officially support bringing the railways, and the supply of water, back into public ownership, how would you propose that we go about it then ?
They could possibly stop paying corporate welfare to private industries, and perhaps do a type of compulsory purchase order for services that are vital the the citizens of the U.K.
I'm not sure what the payout is these days, but during Cameron's regime in was in the region of £94 billion.
//Can you tell us how Labour is going to re nationalise everything for free.//
I told you last time and no one has bothered to read it but hey this is AB
Take industry X - Rail or whatever R
and it costs C (in pounds £c)
You borrrow C in pounds - £C and at an interest rate I
Repayment cost per year is IC it's ick that's what it be
sales S tickets and coffee
cost of sales P
( and sort of gross profit S minus P )
solong as s - p > ick - -(*) - you can do it cost neutrally
I am not saying I support this model
but someone asked how it could be done
see above
(*) sales minus costa sales is greater than interest repaument all per year.
Gromit....you forgot to add that another reason to hive off all our utilities, was to allow the ordinary man the opportunity to make a small profit, by becoming "shareholders" and then they would be so grateful that they would vote Tory at the next Election.
