The Tyrant Thatcher wouldn't have been a puppet like like Bojo the Clown. He's let Valance and Whitty pull his strings all though this. What?!! Close the country down?!! No way. Thatcher would have made them find another way because she was a really strong leader, unlike Johnson who's only interested in being a power mad despot, lacking leadership. I hated Thatcher and all she stood for, but at least she had leadership qualities. Enjoy your supermarket queueing folks - again!

You speak for the dead?
I totally agree,10CS. Boris was desperate to be PM but doesn’t have the required mettle. A shame for him that this crisis turned up on his watch.
he drew the short straw, and i don't believe Thatcher would have been any better, much as i admired her

Thatcher was a full-on leader. Ask the Russians. Ask the miners. Ask the Argies. She wouldn't have been a puppet like Johnson. Future PMs will be paying for his tenure for generations to come, as will the rest of the country, all because he is a weak leader who doesn't have the balls to meet this head on. He just wants us all to run and hide. Whatever the cost. And he doesnt care because if he did he would be listening to alternatives, not ruining the country.
And he doesnt care because if he did he would be listening to alternatives, not ruining the country.

What alternatives ?
exactly ^^

Are you saying that nothing else was put to him? They didn't discuss anything else other than total lockdown? Alternatives? Other options? Not discussed? Do you think that was the case? He's missed the opportunity to show leadership throughout this pandemic. Whitty and Valance have got him dancing on a string. They must love it!
Maybe you should be in charge clarion, you seem to have all the answers.
10c, plenty of criticism from you standing on the sidelines but you are not offering any alternatives,
well it seems 10cs is a secret admirer of TGL!
If he takes the advice of the so-called experts he’s wrong - and if he didn’t he’d be wrong. His is an unenviable task.
Question Author
That's typical of users on this website. They want everyone else to do the work. OK, here goes.

One thing Johnson should have learned from personal experience is that Covid is not the rampant killer it's made out to be. Your average healthy person will recover from it. They may become very ill, that's for sure, but it doesn't kill healthy people.
That should have highlighted where the measures should be taken, a small section of the population who are vulnerable by age and with underlying health problems. Lots of people contract the virus but don't develop the illness. What has the PM learned so far? Only what the lunatics have told him and he believes them. Who are the lunatics? V&W
And what makes you think that Thatcher wouldn't have listened to the scientific advice? her background was in research.
Boris ruined any effects of the first total lockdown by encouraging people to Eat to Help Out. Not only did it start the spread again, it gave people false hope that the end of the pandemic was in sight. He is a very weak leader and you don't need to dig up anyone to compare; Nichola Sturgeon would have done a better job, because, unlike Boris, she could'na care a hooli who likes her or who hates her she just gets on with the job.

When he announced this lockdown, apart from being a few hours late, did he address the Nation before then explain why he had come to the decision? No, he did not, he shoved the scientists into the front line to soften everyone up (bore them to death more like) with graphs that meant nothing to anyone who didn't possess a degree in Statistics, then almost apologised for the decision to lockdown - well it's not really my fault it's the Scientists that made me. He is a disgrace of a leader, this is not a political opinion as I lean more to the right than the left, but frankly the 'Tories have no alternative
Question Author
Her science would have added to her authority. There is no way she would have let this happen. No way.
yes I agree with 10cs, TGL would have listened to the experts but she'd also have realised that we have to endure to protect the economy. As she demonstrated in her tenure time and time again tough decisions are needed to protect the greater good. 80% of cases are asymptomatic anyway, sensible endurable measures are what is needed not total lock down.
Personally I think you are wrong
//That should have highlighted where the measures should be taken, a small section of the population who are vulnerable by age and with underlying health problems.//
Sounds good. Sounds easy. But what does it mean? Lock them all up? Ban over 60s and obeese peopel from shops, pubs, restraunts.

Vallance and Whitty are pulling the power-mad despot's strings....right, ok.
10cs, unless you’ve recently whipped out your ouija board or held a seance you’ve no way of knowing what Thatcher would or wouldn’t have done. Likewise, you don’t know what is said behind closed doors with Johnson and the others.
